3 Ways To Protect Your Ears If You Work In A Noisy Profession

One of the biggest risks of working in a noisy profession is hearing loss. You don't want the job you enjoy to damage your long-term health. If you work in a profession that is really noisy, like in a factory or warehouse, you need to make sure that you are constantly and consistently taking care of your hearing.

#1 Wear Noise-Canceling Headphones

The first thing that you need to do when you work in a noisy environment is invest in a pair of noise-canceling head phones. The ear buds from music devices do not work as headphones. In fact, listening to music in order to drown out the sound of your workplace actually just puts additional stress on your ears.

Give your ears a break and wear noise cancelling headphones instead while you work. This will reduce the noise pollution that you deal with on a daily basis. Noise cancelling head phones will also reduce the strain on your ears that they have to go through every day.

Headphones are best for protecting your ears. Ideally, you want to avoid ear plugs and ear protection that is inserted into your ear canal. You can easily puncture your ear drum with this type of ear protection and push wax and debris deep into your ear canal, which can be dangerous to your overall health.

#2 Keep an Eye On Your Overall Health

You need to keep a close eye on your overall health when you work in a noisy environment. Make sure that you get your blood sugar levels checked on a regular basis. If you struggle to keep your blood sugar levels in check, you can damage your ears.

Also, make sure that you avoid smoking. Smoking and hear health do not go well together. When you smoke, you suffocate the cells in your body. This can further exacerbated issues with your hearing.

Make sure that your doctor knows that you work in a loud environment so they can take special care to consider your ear health when looking at your overall health.

#3 Get Your Hearing Tested

When you work in a loud environment, you want to get your hearing tested on a regular basis. Getting regular hearing tests will help establish a baseline for where your hearing health is at. It will help your doctor more readily identify when you are experiencing hearing issues and come up with different techniques to protect your hearing if a decline in the quality of your hearing is detected.

When you work in a noisy environment, make sure you are protecting your hearing with noise cancelling headphones or ear muffs while at work, stay healthy to protect your hearing and get your hearing checked regularly to establish a baseline for your hearing. These three steps are easy ways to protect your hearing for the long-term when you work in a noisy occupation.
