2 Homemade Antibacterial Sprays To Use In Order To Keep Your Hearing Aids Clean

Depending on how often you wear your hearing aids, they can quickly accumulate dirt and other contaminants. The debris like ear wax and dirt interfere with how well your hearing aids work over time. Therefore, it is important to clean them regularly. Purchasing a commercial cleaner can quickly become expensive. Fortunately, there are a few antibacterial sprays that you can create from home in order to keep your hearing aids clean.

Holy Basil Spray

Holy basil is a powerful antibacterial herb that is frequently used to treat open wounds and cuts. In order to create you holy basil spray, begin by placing a handful of the fresh herb in a pot of water and waiting for it to boil. Remove the mixture and allow the herb to soak for a few hours. Add the mixture to a spray bottle and use it on your hearing aids. Remove the earmold from the hook and spray the rinse on the hook and earmold. Use a clean cloth to dry the hearing aid. If you have an in-ear device, then you can use a hearing aid cleaning brush in addition to the holy basil spray to clean your device. Set your hearing device aside and allow it to fully dry before wearing.

Thyme and Lime Spray

If your hearing aid has an extreme buildup of dirt and other debris, then you may need a more powerful antibacterial rinse to remove the buildup. Thyme and lime are both antibacterial remedies that are used in dental care to treat the buildup of plaque and tartar. The antibacterial properties in lime allow it to break down the toughest bacteria. Start by adding a handful of thyme to a small pot. Cut two fresh limes into small slices and add them to the pot. Allow the pot to simmer at low heat for several minutes. Place the pot to the side and allow the contents to soak for at least an hour. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and apply it to the hearing aid. Use a clean cloth to work the mixture around the earmold and the other openings of the hearing aid. Use a blow dryer or another clean cloth to fully dry the hearing aid before wearing it again.

Dealing with dirty hearing aids can cause damage to your hearing aids and interfere with their performance. Therefore, use these antibacterial sprays to help keep your hearing device clean.
