6 Tips for Dealing With Springtime Allergies

Many people get excited about spring because it brings warm weather and beautiful flowers. However, if you have springtime allergies, you might not be too happy when this season rolls around. However, if you make some simple changes, you can control your allergies a lot better. Here are six helpful tips for dealing with springtime allergies:

Try a Saline Nasal Rinse

If allergy medications make you feel too tired, try a saline nasal rinse to improve your symptoms. When you breathe in this rinse, you can clear up your nasal passages and feel a lot better.

Wear a Mask When Doing Work Outdoors

While it is best to stay indoors when pollen counts are high, sometimes it's necessary to do outdoor chores. If you do have to mow the grass or spread mulch throughout your yard, you should at least wear a surgical mask. This mask will prevent pollen particles from getting into your nasal passages and making you sneeze.

Keep Indoor Air Dry

Pollen survives better in humid environments, so you should try to keep the inside of your house as dry as possible. Always run your air conditioner on hot and humid days. If that is not doing enough to keep the air dry, think about getting a dehumidifier. 

Take a Hot Shower

After you get done doing an activity outside, you should take a hot shower. In addition to removing the pollen from your body, the hot steam will help clear your nasal passages.

Get Rid of Your Carpet

If you experience really bad allergies every spring, you may want to consider removing your carpet because allergens can easily hide there. Replacing your carpet with solid surface flooring can reduce your allergies.

Eat Something Spicy

If you are a fan of spicy food, you will be glad to hear that it can actually help with your allergies. When you eat something very spicy, it will make your eyes water and clear up your nasal passages. The next time you feel stuffed up, try eating some chili peppers or wasabi.
